Retro Mario World
One of the best games ever. Of everything I have ever played looking back, this is one of the few games that really holds up to the test of time. It is still hard, causing Maggie and I to both to scream profanities at the screen. It also is a lot of fun, and the levels vary enough to keep my attention.

We're still having fun, and you're still the one.
Maggie and I are playing it on Virtual Console, and she is using the Classic Controller, so I think she has a slight advantage. The placement of the buttons on the Wavebird does not really make this game easy, and after 10 minutes my fingers are sore from the wacky layout. Still, the fun outweighs the pain, and I am very happy to be playing it again.
Craziest thing is, I’m playing on a 42 inch TV, and because of the SNES graphics, it still looks exactly the same. I’m writing this in between playing levels, because on two player it alternates who is playing at what time.
This is still a solid game.
Best Buy Strikes Again!
I came home from work last night to find an envelope on my table addressed to me. Having not ordered anything in a while, I assumed it was a terrorist device. Instead it was this:

It's A Me, Mario Hat!
The scary thing, it was DIRECT from Best Buy. Like it had someone’s name and address on it. Really weird. I did buy the game from Best Buy, but there was no indication of a free hat! Perhaps I will wear it like a trophy, like the ancient settlers did with the games they caught and killed in the wild.
Look at my Summer!
This summer I finally got around to doing everything I wanted to do, but was unable to with schoolwork.
I finally got a chance to play the crap out of my XBOX, and actually played it so hard I broke the disk drive. So on to XBOX number 2!
I’ve played Ghostbusters, Left4Dead, Prototype, Shadow Complex, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Call of Duty 4, and I’m eagerly awaiting a few other games as well.
I’m excited for Wolfenstein, Modern Warfare 2, Batman, and a few others. I’ve also had a few other surprises, ‘Splosion Man and Shadow Complex beign a few of them. I think I may write up a few reviews soon, cause I have a lot of thoughts about what I thought was amazing, and what I thought was a bust. More amazing than anything though.
I think this is the most hardcore gaming I’ve done in a very long time. I’m loving every minute of it.
Movie Review | Julie and Julia
Quick Review: It was good.
Long Review: I laughed a lot at this movie, and I think Meryl Streep is a very good actress. She plays Julia very well, and had me laughing for most of the movie. Also, not a movie that you should go see hungry, or with any sort of idea that you know how to cook. Everything looks delicious, and I went into it starving.
Its not a traditional chic flick, cause there is little romance, a lot of comedy, and horribly delicious food. If you know a lady, use her as an excuse to go see this. Its totally worth it. Oh, and they have a twitter page.

Look at this twitter page.
The Future: Automation
I was thinking today after working on some really sweet command line stuff –nothing I can really talk about yet– that some processes that are automated are far too boring. I like having a bit or work involved to get a result, I don’t really like things handed to me.
A long long time ago, before iphones were everywhere, and the app store was but a twinkle in Steve’s eye, when hacking the iPhone was cool, I tried it. The entire process was select this, hit enter and wait. It was far too boring, and far too easy. Not to mention it totally jacked my phone, and made it almost unusable, it was so easy I didnt like it.
I like working for a goal. I like getting my hands dirty trying to solve a problem, and that moment of ’oh crap, what do I do now’ as Im working on something. Its adds a thrill to it I think.
Also, the ability for anyone to do a task makes it also boring, throwing in a bit of technical knowledge or something makes it fun too. If a frat boy with google can figure it out, its not interesting to me.
Gimme a command line anyday…
Ode to my AppleTV
Oh AppleTV, how much you amaze and bewilder me. Full of TV shows and movies I want to watch, and podcasts and photos to gaze at.

Look at this delicious technology.
You have so many neat features, and you’re really just neat looking. Like a donut, full of delicious center.
Plus now that I can use my iPhone to use all the neat features with a touch screen, that makes it even better.
Seriously though, I love my Apple TV, and for everyone I talk to about it, they seem suprised, but I honestly love watching things with it.
Ribs
I made some ribs in the crockpot this week.
They were extremely delicious.
They were so super tender, they just fell apart as I was trying to get them out. Very good flavors, and I was very happy with how they turned out.
I’m making a turkey leg right now, so we’ll see how that one goes…
Also, Happy 4th to you all. If you excuse me, I have to go spread some holiday cheer with cookies and stuffed shells.
Three Easy Steps
I think I have this software thing figured out.
Development comes in a few easy steps.
1.0- This is the intro to your product. This shows off what your idea will do, but is usually plagued by lack of features, or poorly implemented features. If you’re lucky, the software works.
2.0- Assuming that people are still using your product, this is where you listen to your users, and implement all the features that should have been in 1.0. This solves most of the bugs, and hopefully introduces new and sometimes useless features. if the software is a companion to a website or larger piece of software, it still misses some really important features, and your users are still pissed.
3.0- The first version that is considered by your users to be ‘usable’. It includes most of the features that was initially promised, and now is a fully functioning piece of software. As soon as this is released, grand plans are already being talked about for the next version.
4.0- (proposed) With all the ‘enhanced and optimized’ features introduced in this new release, this breaks everything that 3.0 set up, and pisses off everyone who uses your software.
I would like to thank facebook for iPhone for its use as a model for this study. Hopefully 3.0 is finally what everyone wanted to begin with.
