The Future: Automation
I was thinking today after working on some really sweet command line stuff –nothing I can really talk about yet– that some processes that are automated are far too boring. I like having a bit or work involved to get a result, I don’t really like things handed to me.
A long long time ago, before iphones were everywhere, and the app store was but a twinkle in Steve’s eye, when hacking the iPhone was cool, I tried it. The entire process was select this, hit enter and wait. It was far too boring, and far too easy. Not to mention it totally jacked my phone, and made it almost unusable, it was so easy I didnt like it.
I like working for a goal. I like getting my hands dirty trying to solve a problem, and that moment of ’oh crap, what do I do now’ as Im working on something. Its adds a thrill to it I think.
Also, the ability for anyone to do a task makes it also boring, throwing in a bit of technical knowledge or something makes it fun too. If a frat boy with google can figure it out, its not interesting to me.
Gimme a command line anyday…
